The Definitive East Africa Expedition
SC-4 is the most ambitious program in the RYDER Signature portfolio — 22 days covering eight destinations across Tanzania, Kenya, and Zanzibar. Six days to Kilimanjaro's Uhuru Peak, a Moshi recovery, Tarangire's elephants, three intelligence-led Serengeti nights, a fly to three Mara nights, two Amboseli nights where the summited mountain rises again above the elephant herds, and three Zanzibar beach nights on the Indian Ocean. Africa's highest summit, Africa's greatest wildlife destination, and the Indian Ocean's most beautiful island — in one continuous expedition.
The program’s defining experience — entirely unique to SC-4 — is the Amboseli narrative closure. Guests who summit Kilimanjaro on Day 7 and then photograph elephants with the same mountain above them on Day 17 experience a personal narrative arc of extraordinary power: the mountain as destination on Day 7, the mountain as backdrop on Day 17. Arrive JRO
Arrive Kilimanjaro: The 22-Day Ultimate Expedition
Your RYDER Signature specialist meets you at JRO and transfers you to your Moshi hotel. The arrival briefing with both the mountain guide and safari guide maps all 22 days: Kilimanjaro’s summit, Moshi recovery, Tarangire, three Serengeti nights, the Kenya cross, three Mara nights, Amboseli, and Zanzibar. Equipment check confirms the mountain kit.
The program’s three-part structure is explained: mountain (Days 1–8), Tanzania and Kenya safari (Days 9–19), and Zanzibar beach (Days 19–22). By the end of the evening, the 22-day arc is mapped as a single coherent East Africa narrative.
Trek 1
Machame Gate → Machame Camp (3,000m): Forest Zone
Transfer to Machame Gate and into the montane forest. Colobus monkeys, giant tree ferns, and the first mountain camp at 3,000 metres.
The cook’s first camp dinner. The Kilimanjaro chapter of the Ultimate Expedition has begun.
Trek 2
Machame → Shira Camp (3,840m): Heath and Plateau
Exit forest, enter heath. Giant lobelias appear. The Shira Plateau opens — Kilimanjaro’s ancient caldera, the summit cone rising above.
Shira Camp (3,840 metres). First high-altitude night. Acclimatisation check.
Trek 3
Shira → Lava Tower (4,642m) → Barranco (3,976m)
Acclimatisation day — climb to the Lava Tower for lunch, descend to Barranco. ‘Climb high sleep low’ at its most effective.
Barranco Camp beneath the Wall. Summit in three days.
Trek 4
Barranco Wall → Karanga Camp (4,035m)
The Barranco Wall scramble. Above the Wall, the Southern Icefield fills the horizon for the first time at full scale. Karanga Camp (4,035 metres).
Pre-summit briefing. Early dinner. Midnight departure fewer than 24 hours away.
Trek 5
Karanga → Barafu Camp (4,673m): Final Approach
Drive to Barafu Camp (4,673 metres) — the highest camp, sitting on the crater rim ridge. Early dinner at 16:00, sleep at 18:00.
Midnight departure for Africa’s highest point. Everything has led to this.
SUMMIT
Barafu → UHURU PEAK (5,895m) → Mweka → Moshi
Midnight. The steep volcanic climb to Stella Point arrives at dawn — ice fields illuminated. Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres): the summit sign, Africa’s highest point, the crater rim panorama.
The long descent to Mweka Gate and transfer to Moshi. Hot showers, a bed, the summit certificate. The Kilimanjaro chapter is complete.
Recovery
Moshi: Full Recovery Day
Full recovery day — late breakfast, hot showers, flat ground, proper food. The afternoon briefing with the safari guide maps the 14 safari days ahead.

Tarangire
Moshi → Tarangire: Elephant Kingdom
Drive to Tarangire (2 hours). Elephant herds at the river, ancient baobabs, the resident wild dog pack. The first post-summit game drive has a particular vividness — wildlife after altitude.
Afternoon drive and sundowner in the baobab landscape.
Ngorongoro + Serengeti
Tarangire → Ngorongoro → Serengeti
Full crater descent — the post-summit Big Five, champagne picnic on the floor. After ascending, west to the Serengeti afternoon entry drive.
The Seronera zone welcomes the expedition’s safari chapter.

First Full Serengeti Day
Full day in the Seronera resident predator zone — dawn cats, bush breakfast, golden hour sundowner. The post-Kili perception of wildlife at its most vivid.

Second Full Serengeti Day
Second full day deploying yesterday’s intelligence at precision. All three big cats targeted with two days of accumulated knowledge.

Third full Serengeti day — maximum intelligence applied. The most precisely targeted Serengeti drives of the expedition.
