Elewana Tortilis Camp is one of Amboseli’s finest properties and one of Kenya’s pioneer eco-lodges, named after the iconic flat-topped Acacia tortilis tree that defines the East African savannah skyline. The camp is set in a private woodland within the 121km² Kitirua Wildlife Conservancy on the southwest boundary of Amboseli National Park the quietest and most spectacular part of the park for Kilimanjaro views, which tower directly behind the camp in photographic perfection on clear mornings. The camp’s position in the private conservancy means guests have exclusive access to areas outside the park’s main road network, allowing drives, guided walks, and bush meals in genuinely uncrowded wilderness.
Twenty spacious tents in makuti-thatched shelters 16 standard, one family tent, and one private house are all kitted with king or twin beds and elegant en-suite bathrooms. The family tent and private house share a private pool and are positioned for maximum Kilimanjaro visibility. The main lounge, bar, and dining area are built from natural materials with open frontage to the landscape. Tortilis is 100% solar-powered, employs approximately 60% of its staff from the local Maasai community, and trains all Maasai guides in-house the result is a guiding team with 80+ combined years of experience in this specific ecosystem. Rates are full board including all meals, drinks, drives, walks, and laundry.
Amboseli Airport (ASV) is served by scheduled charter flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL), a journey of approximately 45–60 minutes. The camp arranges road transfers from the airstrip, which typically include a game drive en route to camp a superb introduction to the ecosystem. By road from Nairobi the journey takes approximately 4 hours on the A104 highway. Private charters from JKIA can be arranged directly to Amboseli.
