14-Day Kenya Grand Expedition: Where the Wild Heart of Africa Beats
Seven destinations, 13 nights, four Mara nights, Laikipia night drives and walking safaris, Samburu endemics, and the complete Big Five. Kenya's most ambitious safari expedition.
Overview
Kenya's Most Ambitious Safari Expedition
KE-G5 is RYDER Signature's most comprehensive Kenya program — a 14-day expedition that visits seven destinations across the country's complete ecological gradient, closes with four nights in the Maasai Mara, and adds Laikipia's private conservancy activities (night drives, walking safaris, rhino tracking) that no national park visit can provide. The program completes the Big Five across five separate locations, covers the Samburu Special Five, visits the Nairobi Giraffe Centre, and delivers the Maasai Mara at the deepest immersion available in a circuit format.
The expedition is designed for guests who specifically want to understand Kenya comprehensively — not just sample its iconic parks, but experience the full ecological and cultural spectrum of the country. From Amboseli’s volcanic plains to Samburu’s northern frontier, from Laikipia’s highland conservancy to Lake Nakuru’s soda lake, from the Nairobi cityscape to the Maasai Mara’s open grassland horizon: KE-G5 covers all of it with the intelligence, expertise, and depth that RYDER Signature’s private guiding delivers.
The most geographically comprehensive Kenya circuit available — north to south.
The deepest Mara immersion in any Kenya circuit program — four intelligence-led nights.
Nocturnal wildlife encounters across two Laikipia conservancy nights.
Big Five coverage across five separate locations — the most robust completeness available.
Two full days targeting all five northern endemics.
14 days, 7 destinations, every major Kenya ecosystem — the definitive Kenya expedition.

Day-by-Day
Your Journey, Day by Day
Arrival
Arrive Nairobi: The Grand Expedition Begins
RYDER Signature meets you at JKIA for the first day of Kenya’s most comprehensive safari circuit. The arrival briefing maps the 14 days ahead: seven destinations, the geographic sequence from volcanic south to highland plateau to northern frontier to Rift Valley to open southern grassland, and the specific wildlife objectives at each stop.
The briefing covers the Laikipia conservancy activities that distinguish this program from the standard circuit — night drives, walking safaris, rhino tracking — and the four Mara nights that close the expedition with maximum depth. By the end of the evening, the Grand Expedition’s scope is established with the full intelligence and excitement it warrants.
Road to Amboseli
Nairobi → Amboseli
Early departure for the four-hour road drive to Amboseli. The Athi-Kapiti wildlife corridor and the emerging Kilimanjaro massif mark the transition to the program’s first wildlife destination. Arrival and afternoon game drive.
The elephant herds at the swamps, Kilimanjaro above the acacia horizon, and the first sundowner of the expedition close Day 2. The mountain is at its clearest tomorrow morning — the guide reminds you of the 06:00 departure.
Full Amboseli
Full Day: Kilimanjaro and the Elephants
Full day in Amboseli across two game drives. Dawn in the optimal Kilimanjaro window — elephant herds at the swamps, the mountain in the background. The afternoon covers the predator circuits and the swamp waterbird spectacle.
A full Amboseli day is the expedition’s deepest elephant experience — two drives with the research-habituated families and the mountain backdrop that makes Amboseli unique on Earth.
Nairobi Stopover
Amboseli → Nairobi: Mid-Circuit Rest
Return drive to Nairobi for the mid-circuit break. Afternoon Giraffe Centre visit — feeding Rothschild’s giraffe from the raised platform, one of Kenya’s most distinctive up-close wildlife encounters. The David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage is the alternative afternoon activity.
The Nairobi night provides laundry, city dining, and preparation for the northern circuit that begins tomorrow. The briefing covers Samburu’s Special Five and the 5-hour drive north.
Drive to Samburu
Nairobi → Samburu: The North Begins
Early departure for the five-hour drive north. The highlands give way to the semi-arid northern frontier before the Ewaso Nyiro River and the reserve gate. Afternoon game drive.
Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and the first Samburu afternoon drive. The guide positions for the leopard along the river — the specific individuals known to the team are in their afternoon positions.
Full Samburu
Full Day: Special Five and the Cats
Full day in Samburu. Dawn river drive for the leopard window and the Special Five completion. The guide targets any remaining endemics — Somali ostrich on the eastern plains, Beisa oryx in the open scrub. A cultural visit to a Samburu manyatta in the afternoon.
By the end of Day 6, the Special Five are typically complete and the Samburu leopard has been observed multiple times. The programme’s northern leg has delivered what it promised before turning south toward Laikipia.
Laikipia
Samburu → Laikipia: The Conservancy World
Morning drive at Samburu before the 2-hour drive south to the Laikipia Plateau. The conservancy afternoon introduces the private land activities: an afternoon game drive followed by the first night drive after dinner. The Laikipia night drive’s aardvark, genet, and nocturnal predators open the conservancy’s nocturnal programme.
The transition from Samburu’s riverine landscape to Laikipia’s open highland plateau is one of the circuit’s most significant ecological shifts — from the arid north to the semi-arid highland, with Mount Kenya’s summit visible above the eastern conservancy boundary.
Full Laikipia
Full Laikipia: Walking, Rhino, Night
Full day deploying the conservancy’s complete activity portfolio: walking safari in the morning, black rhino tracking in the afternoon, night drive after dinner. The Laikipia day is the expedition’s most activity-diverse day — four completely different wildlife engagement modes in a single day.
NWR encounter at Ol Pejeta can be incorporated for HEL tier guests as a morning extension before the walking safari. The accumulated Laikipia day delivers the conservancy depth that no national park visit can replicate.
Lake Nakuru
Laikipia → Lake Nakuru: The Pink Rift
Morning drive at Laikipia before the 2-hour drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. The afternoon game drive follows the flamingo-lined shoreline, cliff viewpoints, and the predator circuits in the park’s enclosed landscape.
Day 9 completes six of the expedition’s seven destinations. The circuit’s ecological range — from Amboseli’s volcanic basin to Samburu’s arid frontier to Laikipia’s highland conservancy to Nakuru’s soda lake — is now complete before the Maasai Mara’s closing four nights.
Road to Mara
Lake Nakuru → Maasai Mara: The Last Transition
Morning game drive at Lake Nakuru before the 2.5-hour drive to the Maasai Mara. The last road transfer of the expedition delivers the program to its final and deepest phase. Arrival at the Mara and afternoon game drive begins.
The Mara announces itself with characteristic immediacy: the open horizon, the wildlife density, the Mara River. Four nights ahead — more than any other destination in the expedition — to explore this landscape at full depth.
Full Mara
First Full Mara Day: Orientation
First full day in the Maasai Mara. Dawn at 06:00 targeting the overnight intelligence: the lion pride’s kill, the cheetah’s morning circuit, the leopard’s riverine tree. The first full Mara day covers the primary predator territories and establishes the intelligence map for the three remaining days.
Bush breakfast at Signature and Pinnacle tiers. The accumulated context of nine days across six other ecosystems enriches every Mara encounter — the predator density feels like the culmination of the entire expedition.
Mara Intelligence
Deep Mara: Intelligence Builds
The second full Mara day deploys yesterday’s intelligence. The guide knows the exact lion territories, the cheetah’s morning circuit, the specific fig tree. Day 12 is the first truly precision-targeted day of the Mara programme.
Optional balloon at dawn. The afternoon drive extends through the golden hour. The expedition is in its deepest phase — four consecutive Mara nights is a depth available in almost no other Kenya circuit program.
Full Mara
Third Mara Day: Maximum Precision
The third full Mara day deploys three nights of accumulated intelligence for the expedition’s most precisely targeted game drives. Lion, cheetah, and leopard positions known to within specific daily circuits — the guide navigates the Mara at the level of expertise that only three consecutive days can deliver.
A final sundowner on the open Mara plains closes Day 13 — the penultimate evening of the Grand Expedition, with 13 days and six ecosystems behind you.
Fly-Out
Final Morning Drive → Maasai Mara ✈ Nairobi
Final morning game drive at 06:00 — the last encounter of the Grand Expedition. Four days of Mara intelligence deployed for the final positioning before the airstrip transfer and the morning flight to Nairobi.
Morning flight to Nairobi Wilson Airport, arriving before noon. RYDER Signature transfers to JKIA for international departures. The Kenya Grand Expedition — 14 days, seven destinations, the complete Big Five and Samburu Special Five, conservancy night drives, and the Mara’s deepest intelligence — closes as RYDER Signature’s most comprehensive Kenya program.
