Sala’s Camp is a small, deeply intimate luxury safari camp in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, positioned in the far southern sector near the confluence of the Sand and Keekorok Rivers as close to the Tanzanian border as any camp in the Mara, and among the first in the entire ecosystem to witness the annual wildebeest migration when the herds stream north from the Serengeti from June onwards. The camp’s remote location in the reserve’s quieter southern zone means fewer vehicles, less disturbance, and game drives that feel genuinely private. Operated by The Safari Collection, Sala’s shares the brand’s Footprint Foundation community model with sister lodge Sasaab in Samburu, contributing to local schools, wildlife conservation, and ranger programmes.
Eleven tents seven standard luxury tents, two family tents, and two honeymoon tents each have private plunge pools overlooking the Sand River and the northern Serengeti. En-suite bathrooms feature hot showers, baths, flush toilets, and running water. The cuisine cooked over open fires using fresh seasonal produce from local Maasai farms, with home-baked pastries and bush breakfasts served on the open plains is consistently praised as among the Mara’s finest. Rates include all meals, beverages, game drives, and laundry. Activities beyond twice-daily drives include guided walks, hot-air balloon safaris at additional cost, and the camp’s signature ‘bush bubble bath’ under the stars.
The Maasai Mara is reached by a 45-minute scheduled charter flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL). Multiple daily flights are available on shared charters, operated by several Kenyan carriers. International travellers arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) can transfer to Wilson Airport or arrange a private charter flight directly to the camp’s nearest airstrip. Road access from Nairobi takes approximately 5–6 hours and is not recommended except for the most budget-conscious travellers.
