Elephant Bedroom Camp earns its name from one of safari’s most remarkable daily phenomena: elephants regularly wander through the camp itself, sometimes passing within metres of the tents and occasionally investigating the plunge pools. The camp sits on the north bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the heart of Samburu National Reserve, beneath a canopy of towering doum palms and ancient acacias that create a shaded riverine oasis in the otherwise arid northern landscape. Operated by Atua Enkop Africa a collection known for responsible community integration the camp’s unfenced design is the deliberate choice of a team committed to authentic wildlife immersion rather than separation from it.
Fourteen spacious tented suites raised on platforms along the riverbank including two family tents all have private plunge pools, king-size beds, en-suite bathrooms, and river-facing verandas where crocodiles, hippos, and the Samburu Special Five (Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich) pass regularly. A personal butler is assigned to each guest. The lounge, bar, and dining areas are positioned for panoramic river views; meals are served alfresco wherever possible, with bush dinners and candlelit star setups available on request. A spa tent, swimming pool, and guided drives, walks, and Samburu village cultural visits round out the programme.
Samburu is served by scheduled daily charter flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL), approximately 60–90 minutes. Air Kenya, SafariLink, and FlyALS operate routes to Kalama, Samburu, and Buffalo Springs airstrips. The camp arranges road transfers from the airstrip, which typically include a game drive en route. By road from Nairobi takes approximately 6 hours via the A2 highway north through Isiolo.
