Loisaba Tented Camp sits on a dramatic ridge in the northwest of the 57,000-acre Loisaba Conservancy in Laikipia, facing the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya across a vast panorama of wild northern Kenya plains. The camp was completely rebuilt in 2016 to deliver a contemporary and elegant base for exploring one of Kenya’s most wildlife-rich private conservancies. Loisaba is managed by Space for Giants a leading African conservation NGO dedicated to protecting elephants and the landscapes they need to survive making it one of Kenya’s most conservation-focused destinations. The conservancy supports exceptional populations of elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, African wild dog, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and over 300 bird species.
A collection of spacious canvas tents ranged along the ridge all facing Mount Kenya feature king-size beds, en-suite bathrooms, private decks with striking mountain views, and warm contemporary interiors. A generous pool, open-air lounge and bar, and a dining area that maximises the view complete the communal experience. Activities are extraordinarily varied for Laikipia: day and night game drives, guided walks, horse riding, camel safaris, mountain biking, archery, and visits to a local cultural boma. A short walk or drive from the main camp, the famous Loisaba Star Beds offer a completely unique experience: four-poster beds that roll out onto open-air platforms above a waterhole for sleeping under the African sky with wildlife below.
Laikipia is reached by a 40–60 minute charter flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL) to Nanyuki Airport (NYK) or a private airstrip on or near the conservancy. SafariLink and Air Kenya both serve the Nanyuki route. The camp arranges transfers from the airstrip. By road from Nairobi the journey takes 3–4 hours via the A2 highway north through Nanyuki.
