16-Day Kilimanjaro, Safari & Beach Grand: Where the Wild Heart of Africa Beats
Seven-day Lemosho Route to Uhuru Peak. Full recovery day. Three Serengeti nights at maximum depth. Fly to Zanzibar. Tanzania's mountain, safari, and beach trilogy at its grandest.
Overview
Tanzania's Grand Trilogy — Mountain, Safari, and Beach at Full Depth
MS-5 is RYDER Signature's definitive Tanzania mountain-safari-beach program — the 7-day Lemosho Route to Uhuru Peak, a full Moshi recovery day, three intelligence-led Serengeti nights, and two Zanzibar beach days. Every element is at its maximum depth: the Lemosho Route for superior acclimatisation, three Serengeti nights for full intelligence-led precision targeting, and Zanzibar for both Stone Town culture and coral reef snorkelling.
The program’s 16-day structure allows each of Tanzania’s three defining experiences their proper time. The Lemosho Route’s 7 days build the summit preparation carefully; the Moshi recovery day is a proper rest rather than a half-measure; three Serengeti nights delivers the post-summit precision targeting that only accumulated intelligence enables; and Zanzibar’s two days provide both cultural depth and the Indian Ocean recovery that 14 mountain and safari days genuinely earn.
Superior acclimatisation and summit success rates — the best Kilimanjaro approach.
Full crater descent on the transition day — post-summit wildlife at its most vivid.
Maximum intelligence depth — the Serengeti's resident predators at full precision.
90-minute fly from Africa's greatest predator reserve to the Indian Ocean.
Stone Town culture + coral reef snorkelling + pure beach recovery.
Mountain, safari, and beach — the definitive Tanzania combined program.

Day-by-Day
Your Journey, Day by Day
Arrive JRO
Arrive Kilimanjaro: The Grand Begins
RYDER Signature meets you at JRO and transfers you to your Moshi hotel. The arrival briefing with your mountain guide covers the full 16-day program: the 7-day Lemosho Route to Uhuru Peak, a recovery day in Moshi, three Serengeti nights, and two Zanzibar beach days. Equipment is checked against the kit list.
The Lemosho Route’s specific advantages — the remote western approach, the additional acclimatisation day, and the higher summit success rates — are explained. The guide maps the 7 mountain days with the specific altitude gains and physiological milestones that make the Lemosho profile superior to the shorter routes.
Lemosho Day 1
Londorossi Gate → Forest Camp (2,780m)
Transfer to the Londorossi Gate on Kilimanjaro’s remote western side. The Lemosho forest zone is pristine — colobus monkeys in the canopy, forest-floor orchids, and the complete absence of other trekking groups that characterises the western approach. Forest Camp (2,780 metres) arrives in the afternoon.
The mountain’s first night at altitude. The cook prepares the first camp dinner and the guide reviews tomorrow’s approach to the Shira Plateau.
Lemosho Day 2
Forest Camp → Shira 1 (3,500m): The Plateau
Exit the forest and enter the Shira Plateau — the vast open caldera grassland that defines Kilimanjaro’s western approach. Shira 1 Camp (3,500 metres) sits exposed on the plateau with the summit cone visible above.
The plateau’s openness is a significant change from the forest’s shelter. The guide conducts the acclimatisation check — the body’s altitude adaptation now well underway.
Lemosho Day 3
Shira 1 → Shira 2 → Lava Tower (4,642m) Acclimatisation
Acclimatisation day — cross the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp and continue to the Lava Tower (4,642 metres) for lunch before descending to camp. The ‘climb high sleep low’ physiological principle maximises the acclimatisation at this altitude.
The Lemosho Route’s additional acclimatisation day at the Shira plateau is the key difference from the shorter Machame schedule — the body gains one more full day at altitude before the final approach.
Lemosho Day 4
Shira 2 → Barranco Camp (3,976m)
Descend from the plateau to the Barranco Valley and Barranco Camp (3,976 metres). The giant groundsels and lobelias of Kilimanjaro’s moorland zone reach their maximum size and density on this section.
Barranco Camp beneath the Wall. The summit briefing covers the final three days: the Wall, Karanga, Barafu, and the midnight push.
Lemosho Day 5
Barranco Wall → Karanga Camp (4,035m)
The Barranco Wall scramble — Kilimanjaro’s most dramatic single trekking day. Above the Wall, the Southern Icefield fills the horizon for the first time at full scale. Traverse to Karanga Camp (4,035 metres).
Pre-summit briefing and early dinner. Midnight departure for Uhuru Peak is 18 hours away.
Lemosho Day 6
Karanga → Barafu Camp (4,673m): The Final Camp
Drive to Barafu Camp (4,673 metres) — the highest camp on the Lemosho/Machame route, sitting on the crater rim’s volcanic ridge with views of both the Kibo summit above and the plains 4,000 metres below.
Early dinner at Barafu (16:00), early sleep (18:00), and midnight departure for the summit. The guide conducts the final briefing: the route, the conditions, the turnaround protocol, and the summit celebration plan.
Summit + Descent
Barafu → SUMMIT (5,895m) → Mweka Gate → Moshi
Midnight departure from Barafu. The steep volcanic scree and rock climb to Stella Point (5,739 metres) arrives as dawn light touches the glacier. Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres): the summit sign, the crater rim, the full panorama of Tanzania below. Africa’s highest point — the Lemosho Route’s 7-day approach arriving at this moment.
The descent: from Uhuru back to Barafu, then the long trail down through the moorland to Mweka Gate (1,641 metres). Transfer to Moshi hotel — hot showers, a proper bed, and the summit certificate. The mountain chapter of the Grand program is complete.
Recovery
Moshi: Full Recovery Day
Full recovery day in Moshi — intentionally unscheduled. Late breakfast, flat ground, hot showers, and the post-summit processing time that transforms the mountain experience from exhaustion to satisfaction. The afternoon safari briefing with the safari guide maps the three Serengeti nights and the Zanzibar extension.
The recovery day is the Grand program’s hinge. The Lemosho Route’s 7 days and the Uhuru summit are behind; the Serengeti’s open plains and Zanzibar’s Indian Ocean are ahead. A good dinner and early sleep before tomorrow’s early departure.
Ngorongoro + Serengeti
Moshi → Ngorongoro → Serengeti Entry
Drive from Moshi (3.5 hours) to the Ngorongoro Crater for the full descent. The post-summit Big Five in the enclosed caldera — black rhino, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo — before the transition west to the Serengeti afternoon entry drive.
Three Serengeti nights ahead. The post-summit vividness of wildlife observation makes this Ngorongoro + Serengeti transition day one of the most consistently rewarding game drive days in any RYDER Signature program.
Full Serengeti 1
First Full Serengeti Day
Full day in the Seronera resident predator zone — dawn cats, bush breakfast, full day drives, golden hour to sundowner. The first full safari day after the Kilimanjaro summit and Moshi recovery is consistently described as the most vivid wildlife day of any program.
The Serengeti’s lion prides, riverine leopard, and open-plain cheetah in the vividest post-summit observation.
Full Serengeti 2
Second Full Serengeti Day: Intelligence Applied
Second full day deploying yesterday’s intelligence at precision. The specific lion territories, leopard’s tree, and cheetah’s circuit targeted with the accuracy that two consecutive days enables.
Afternoon through golden hour. The penultimate Serengeti day before the Zanzibar fly tomorrow.
Full Serengeti 3
Third Full Serengeti Day: Maximum Precision
Third full Serengeti day — three nights of intelligence deployed at maximum specificity. The most targeted game drives of the program: every animal at its confirmed position, every timing precise.
Final Serengeti field sundowner on the open plains — the last of the mountain-safari chapter of the Grand program. Tomorrow’s fly to Zanzibar.
Serengeti ✈ Zanzibar
Serengeti ✈ Zanzibar: The Indian Ocean
Final morning game drive before the airstrip transfer and the 90-minute fly to Zanzibar. The tawny Serengeti gold gives way to the turquoise Indian Ocean through the aircraft window as the island approaches.
Arrival at Zanzibar and transfer to the beach property. The Indian Ocean’s warmth, the salt air, and the sand after 13 consecutive mountain and safari days signal the Grand program’s final chapter. A first beach sunset closes the transition.
Zanzibar 1
Beach Day 1: Stone Town and the Indian Ocean
Morning Stone Town guided tour — the UNESCO World Heritage quarter, carved Arab doors, the old slave port. The cultural depth of the island’s Omani-Swahili heritage enriches the beach days.
Afternoon beach relaxation. Evening dhow sunset cruise from the harbour. The post-summit, post-safari decompression begins in the Indian Ocean’s warmth.
Zanzibar 2
Beach Day 2: Coral Reefs and Pure Beach
Morning guided snorkelling or diving at the coral reefs — Mnemba Atoll or the house reefs. Sea turtles, reef sharks, and the Indian Ocean’s extraordinary underwater world in 27°C clarity.
Afternoon pure beach. The Grand program’s closing day — Kilimanjaro’s summit, the Serengeti’s lions, and the Indian Ocean’s coral reefs all part of a single 16-day Tanzania journey.
Departure
Final Zanzibar Morning → ZNZ Departure
Final beach morning and breakfast before the airport transfer. The 16-Day Kilimanjaro, Safari and Beach Grand program closes — Tanzania’s mountain, safari, and beach trilogy at its most complete.
RYDER Signature coordinates the ZNZ airport transfer. The program formally ends at Zanzibar Karume Airport.
