Scenic Route, via Tanga

A longer alternative through the coastal town of Tanga before turning inland toward Moshi and Arusha, adding real distance but also scenic and cultural value, Tanga's coastline and German colonial architecture among the highlights. Typically 10 to 14 hours, often split over two days.

Splitting the journey over two days reduces driving fatigue and opens up overnight options, a stay in Lushoto in the Usambara Mountains for cloud forest exploration, a night in the Same or Pare foothills before the final push to Moshi or Arusha, or a detour with an overnight at Mikumi National Park for wildlife viewing along the way.
