Accommodation is the single largest pricing variable in most itineraries, the gap between tiers can exceed $1,000 per person per night, which makes lodge selection your primary lever. High End Luxury properties occupy prime locations, private conservancies, crater rims, or exclusive concessions, with service and dining that rival five star hotels, private guiding, premium beverages, and often a conservation contribution built into the rate. Luxury properties deliver genuine comfort and strong wildlife locations without ultra premium pricing, and many travelers find this the real sweet spot. Midrange properties are clean and comfortable with solid service and good wildlife access, you'll see the same animals from a simpler camp, the tier sacrifices amenities, not sightings. Budget properties are basic but acceptable, we only recommend options that meet a genuine minimum standard for safety, hygiene, and comfort, regardless of price.

Seasonality

Peak season, July through October and December through January, brings the highest prices, driven by Great Migration viewing, dry season game concentration, and holiday travel, typically 30 to 50 percent above shoulder season. Shoulder season, June, November, and early December, often delivers near peak quality wildlife viewing without peak pricing, genuinely strong value for flexible travelers. Green season, March through May and parts of November, brings the lowest prices alongside higher rainfall probability, along with real advantages many experienced safari travelers specifically choose it for, lush landscapes, newborn animals, strong birding, and far fewer crowds.

Protected area access requires daily fees that meaningfully affect total cost, and these are worth checking carefully, they change more often and by more than most travelers expect.

These fees fund the conservation work protecting the wildlife you're there to see, and most RYDER Signature quotations include them within the stated price, so you see one number rather than a string of surprises at each gate.

Scheduled flights on regional carriers typically run $150 to $400 per person per sector depending on route and booking timing. Charter flights offer flexibility and time savings at a real premium, typically $1,500 to $5,000 or more per flight depending on aircraft and distance, and make the most sense for remote destinations or groups splitting the cost. Road transfers cost less than flying but take more time, and a scenic route through wildlife areas can double as game viewing along the way.

Guide Services

Standard guiding is included in most accommodation rates and varies in quality by property. Private guides dedicated to your party alone typically add $300 to $600 per day. Specialist guides, photography or ornithology experts, typically run $400 to $800 per day, an investment that pays off specifically for travelers with a defined interest in that specialty.

An initial deposit of 20 to 30 percent of total cost secures your booking, with the exact percentage depending on properties and timing. The balance is typically due 60 to 90 days before departure, earlier for peak season and premium properties, and bookings made less than 60 days out may require full payment upfront. We accept bank wire transfer, which we prefer for larger payments, credit cards with possible processing fees, and payment plans for advance bookings by arrangement.

Cancellation Policies

Cancellation terms reflect the underlying property policies and shift with timing. Deposits are typically partially refundable, often 50 to 75 percent, 90 or more days before departure, with progressively larger forfeiture as the departure date approaches, and little to no refund inside 30 days, since properties can no longer resell the space. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, medical emergency, and evacuation, a meaningful protection given the size of a safari investment.

Booking Changes

Minor adjustments to activities or meal timing typically go through without charge. Substituting an equivalent property is usually possible without penalty if availability allows. Date changes may incur fees depending on property policy and timing, and adding or removing nights affects both pricing and availability, worth a direct conversation with us rather than a guess.
