10-Day Northern Safari & Zanzibar: Where the Wild Heart of Africa Beats

Morning departure for Tarangire. The afternoon game drive introduces the program’s first wildlife destination — hundreds of elephants in the baobab landscape of the Tarangire River basin. The park’s resident predators, its wild dog packs, and the extraordinary dry-season wildlife concentration make a single afternoon a deeply productive first safari encounter.

A sundowner in the baobab shadow closes the first safari day. The packing for tomorrow’s Ngorongoro transition is straightforward — the accommodation changes every one to two nights on the safari leg.

Drive through the Karatu highlands to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The ascent through dense montane forest reaches the crater rim in the afternoon — the first view of the caldera, 19 kilometres across and 600 metres deep, is immediately and consistently extraordinary.

Full day in the Serengeti. Dawn drive at 06:00 deploying overnight intelligence — the lion pride’s position, the cheetah’s morning patrol, and the leopard’s riverine tree. The Seronera zone’s resident big cat population delivers consistently across all seasons with a private guide.

Bush breakfast at LUX/HEL tiers on the open Serengeti plains. Afternoon drive through the golden hour to a field sundowner — the last safari evening of the program before tomorrow’s Zanzibar flight.

Final morning game drive in the Serengeti before the airstrip transfer. The flight from the Serengeti to Zanzibar (90 minutes) is East Africa’s most satisfying travel transition — the grassland and dust of the bush giving way to the turquoise Indian Ocean visible through the aircraft window as the island approaches.

Arrival at Zanzibar and transfer to the beach property. The Indian Ocean’s warmth, the sand between your toes, and the smell of salt air after six safari days is a complete sensory reset. A sunset cocktail on the beach closes the transition day.

Morning Stone Town tour — the UNESCO World Heritage old town with its narrow alleys, carved Arab doors, and the Fort. The old slave port memorial and the House of Wonders are the cultural highlights. The afternoon is pure beach.

A dhow sunset cruise from Stone Town in the early evening — the traditional wooden boats that have sailed these waters for centuries, cold drinks and snacks, the coastline at golden hour. The first full Zanzibar evening.

A morning snorkelling trip to the coral reefs — the guide coordinates a boat from the beach to the best reef conditions on the day. The Indian Ocean’s clarity and the coral reef’s colour and fish diversity reward snorkellers at every level of experience.

Afternoon beach relaxation — the specific quality of post-safari beach rest that every guest on a safari-beach program describes as one of the most satisfying states of physical well-being. The body that spent six days rising at 05:30 for game drives now rises at 09:00 and finds the ocean still warm.

A morning spice farm tour — Zanzibar was historically the world’s primary clove supplier and the island’s spice plantations grow cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, and turmeric alongside the famous cloves. The tour is a guided aromatic walk through the spice garden with tastings.

The afternoon is the final beach session — the Indian Ocean one last time, the sunset from the beach bar or the villa terrace, the program’s closing evening in the warm Indian Ocean air.
