Surana Buffalo Springs is an architecturally striking luxury safari camp in Kenya’s Buffalo Springs National Reserve, operated by Ashnil Hotels under the Surana brand. Set on a ridge above the confluence of the Ewaso Nyiro and Isiolo Rivers, the camp’s dramatic positioning delivers some of the most spectacular views in northern Kenya the rivers’ undulating confluence visible below, the sacred Mount Ololokwe and sister hills forming a skyline to the north, and the lava-stone arid plains stretching into the distance. The design blends rock and canvas in a style described as exceeding the usual definition of ‘safari-chic’, with a genuinely distinctive aesthetic that draws from Swahili and desert design traditions.
Seventeen luxury tented suites, each with individual private plunge pools, are positioned on the ridge brow for maximum panoramic impact. Hybrid canvas-and-stone structures provide both the openness of a tent and the solidity of a lodge room, with hardwood floors, stylish furnishings, walk-in showers, and private terraces. An eagle-view rooftop terrace above the main lounge serves as the perfect sundowner and stargazing platform. The camp’s main infinity pool is carved into the natural ridge; the spa uses local ingredients. Game drives cover both Buffalo Springs and the adjacent Samburu National Reserve, where the Samburu Special Five are found alongside lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, and wild dog. A cosmopolitan restaurant serves local and international fusion cuisine.
Samburu is served by scheduled daily charter flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL), approximately 60–90 minutes. Air Kenya, SafariLink, and FlyALS operate routes to Kalama, Samburu, and Buffalo Springs airstrips. The camp arranges road transfers from the airstrip, which typically include a game drive en route. By road from Nairobi takes approximately 6 hours via the A2 highway north through Isiolo.
