Satao Elerai Camp is a luxury eco-camp set in the 7,000-acre Elerai Conservancy on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, bordering Amboseli National Park to the north. The conservancy was established as a community-based conservation model in partnership with local Maasai landowners, and Satao Elerai has been at the heart of this initiative since its founding the camp is committed to sustainable tourism practices, community employment, and wildlife management within the conservancy. The elevated position on Kilimanjaro’s foothills gives the camp exceptional mountain views and access to a different range of vegetation and wildlife than the flat park itself.
Fifteen tented rooms and suites are built on raised platforms with unobstructed views of Kilimanjaro and the Amboseli ecosystem. Each has a private veranda, en-suite bathroom with solar-heated shower, and comfortable safari furnishings. The communal areas are open-sided to maximise the mountain views. Activities include game drives in both the Elerai Conservancy and Amboseli National Park, guided Maasai-led walks in the conservancy, cultural village visits, and night drives in the private conservancy. The conservancy’s community-run model means a proportion of all revenue supports local Maasai families, schools, and conservation infrastructure.
Amboseli Airport (ASV) is served by scheduled charter flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL), a journey of approximately 45–60 minutes. The camp arranges road transfers from the airstrip, which typically include a game drive en route to camp a superb introduction to the ecosystem. By road from Nairobi the journey takes approximately 4 hours on the A104 highway. Private charters from JKIA can be arranged directly to Amboseli.
