About Saruni Samburu

About Saruni Samburu

Saruni Samburu is one of northern Kenya’s most spectacular safari lodges perched on a massive red rock outcrop at the heart of the 240,000-acre Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy, seven kilometres from the northern border of Samburu National Reserve. The lodge was the pioneer property in the community-owned Kalama Conservancy, opening in 2008, and its establishment is credited with helping catalyse northern Kenya’s community-conservation tourism model. The elevation is both dramatic and functional: 360-degree panoramic views stretch across the conservancy’s arid plains all the way to the snow-capped peak of Mount Kenya on the eastern horizon, and the lodge’s open-fronted design ensures not a moment of this landscape is wasted.

Six luxury villas two one-bedroom standard villas (one configured as a honeymoon), and four two-bedroom family villas are carved into the rock itself, with whitewashed walls, Zanzibari chests, wrought-iron four-poster beds, enormous open-air bathrooms with outdoor showers, and private verandas with breathtaking views. Two infinity pools are designed to blend seamlessly into the rocky terrain; both collect rainwater and reflect the vast northern sky. The Samburu Wellbeing Space offers traditional healing treatments; the cuisine is Italian-influenced and locally sourced, consistently rated among Kenya’s finest safari dining. Activities are extraordinarily varied: game drives in Kalama and the national reserve, guided walks, Samburu village visits, prehistoric cave art tours, rock art excursions, fly camping, and night drives are all available. ECO Gold certified by Ecotourism Society of Kenya.
