Samburu Sopa Lodge is a mid-range safari lodge in the Samburu National Reserve, operated by the Sopa Lodges group a trusted Kenyan hospitality brand with properties across the country’s key wildlife destinations. Unlike most lodges that cluster along the Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu Sopa is positioned on higher ground away from the river and other properties, giving guests a quieter, less crowded game drive experience as soon as the vehicle leaves camp. The architecture draws on local Maasai building traditions, with thatched bungalows reflecting the heritage of the surrounding communities.
Sixty rooms across 15 cottage-style bungalows with two bedrooms each offer comfortable mid-range accommodation with en-suite bathrooms, fans, private verandas, and views of the Samburu landscape. Two accessible rooms with wheelchair features are close to the reception. A swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and conference facilities complete the amenity set. Twice-daily game drives are the primary activity, covering the national reserve’s varied habitats where the Samburu Special Five (Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich) alongside traditional big-game species make every drive rewarding. Full board rates are available.
Samburu is served by scheduled daily charter flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL), approximately 60–90 minutes. Air Kenya, SafariLink, and FlyALS operate routes to Kalama, Samburu, and Buffalo Springs airstrips. The camp arranges road transfers from the airstrip, which typically include a game drive en route. By road from Nairobi takes approximately 6 hours via the A2 highway north through Isiolo.
