Ruaha Hilltop Lodge is positioned on the slopes of Ideremle Mountain, offering panoramic views over the vast savannah plains of the Ruaha ecosystem, 15km from the entrance gate to Ruaha National Park. The location above the plains gives the lodge its defining character: sunrises and sunsets are watched from the viewing decks and cottage verandas in full panoramic sweep, with wildlife particularly during the dry season visible crossing the plains below. It is the most affordable accommodation option in the greater Ruaha area, making it the go-to choice for budget-conscious travellers who want to experience one of Tanzania’s great safari destinations without the premium price tag of in-park lodges.
Twenty-seven cottages (standard, family, group, and the new luxury Utulivu Mbunguni cottages) are arranged across the hillside, each with its own veranda and private bathroom. The open-plan main house includes a restaurant, bar, and a large terrace with outstanding views. A new infinity pool looks out over the Ruaha wilderness. The chefs prepare fresh meals using local produce, baking their own bread each day. Game drives and walking safaris into the park are organised from the lodge by experienced local guides in open safari vehicles.
