Lemala Osonjoi Lodge is the newest addition to the Lemala portfolio, opened in 2025 on the quieter eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, adjacent to the Lemala Gate. Its position on the less-trafficked eastern side is a strategic advantage: guests reach the crater floor in 10 to 15 minutes significantly faster than those using the busier western rim access road and the morning light on this side of the crater is optimal for photography. The lodge is entirely solar-powered, off-grid, and takes its name from the Osonjoi trees that characterise the surrounding highland forest.
Sixteen standard suites and two two-bedroom suites are generously proportioned, each with oversized beds, picture windows framing forest views, indoor and outdoor showers, freestanding bathtubs, and wood-burning stoves. A distinctive secret nook in each suite provides a reading or coffee spot with crater views. The lodge’s indoor heated pool is the only one of its kind in the Ngorongoro region and is particularly appreciated in the cool highland evenings. A spa, lounge with fireplace, bar, and outdoor viewing deck complete the facilities.
Sixteen Luxury Suites and two Family Suites each feature oversized beds, wood-burning stoves, freestanding bathtubs, indoor and outdoor showers, and private decks with forest views.
Lake Manyara Airport (LKY) is the nearest airstrip, approximately 2 hours by road from the lodge. Charter flights from Arusha and Kilimanjaro are available. The lodge is located on the quieter eastern rim of the crater and has fast access to the Lemala Gate for crater descents.
