Kibo Safari Camp is a well-regarded mid-range tented safari camp in the Amboseli ecosystem, offering accessible, comfortable accommodation close to Amboseli National Park at a price point well below the premium eco-lodges of the area. The name ‘Kibo’ is the name of the highest peak of Kilimanjaro an appropriate designation for a camp from which the mountain dominates the horizon on clear mornings and evenings. The camp attracts a loyal mix of independent travellers, small group tours, and budget safari operators who want a genuine Amboseli experience without the premium pricing of the lodge or eco-camp sector.
Comfortable tents and rooms are equipped with en-suite facilities, private verandas, and views across the surrounding landscape. A pool, restaurant serving international and Kenyan cuisine, bar, and a sociable communal area form the camp’s facilities. Experienced local guides lead twice-daily game drives into Amboseli National Park, where elephant herds, lion, cheetah, giraffe, and the big Kilimanjaro backdrop make every drive memorable. Guided walks, cultural village visits, and sundowners in the bush can also be arranged.
Amboseli Airport (ASV) is served by scheduled charter flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL), a journey of approximately 45–60 minutes. The camp arranges road transfers from the airstrip, which typically include a game drive en route to camp a superb introduction to the ecosystem. By road from Nairobi the journey takes approximately 4 hours on the A104 highway. Private charters from JKIA can be arranged directly to Amboseli.
