Jabali Ridge is Ruaha National Park’s most sophisticated safari lodge, owned and operated by Asilia Africa from a dramatic granite kopje overlooking the seasonal Mwagusi River and the Ikuka escarpment in northern Ruaha. The word ‘Jabali’ means rock in Swahili, and the lodge takes full advantage of its rocky promontory: eight suites are set among the giant boulders, incorporating the natural granite into their design, with louvred wooden shutters that open the rooms to the bush and private verandas with wide-screen views across the palm-studded plains below. The design is genuinely chic hand-crafted pendant iron lighting, African wooden stools, stone basins, and rain showers while the infinity pool and on-site spa (offering treatments in a single treatment room or in-suite) elevate the luxury credentials of the lodge without compromising its bush character.
Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s largest national park and one of Africa’s great game-viewing secrets, home to the world’s highest concentrations of lion, vast herds of elephant, and rare endemic species including puku antelope, greater kudu, and African wild dog. Asilia’s guiding standards are exceptional: day and night game drives and walking safaris allow guests to explore every corner of the ecosystem, and a modified photographic vehicle is on hand for serious photographers.
