Gibbs Farm is a historic lodge founded in the 1920s as a coffee plantation on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater. It remains a working farm today, and the rhythm of life here follows the land: coffee is grown, roasted, and brewed on-site; vegetables and herbs come from the kitchen garden; and cows are milked in the early morning. Few properties in East Africa can claim this depth of agricultural character, and it gives Gibbs Farm a warmth and authenticity that more purpose-built lodges cannot replicate.
The lodge makes an outstanding base for safari excursions to Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro, and the farm itself provides ample reason to linger between drives. Walking the estate, visiting the livestock, taking a wellness treatment, or simply sitting with a cup of freshly roasted coffee overlooking the Great Rift Valley are experiences that stay with guests long after they leave.
Seventeen individually themed farm cottages and two farm houses are scattered across the property, each with outdoor shower options, mosquito-net-draped beds, and en-suite bathrooms. The farm houses accommodate larger families or small groups.
The nearest airstrip is Lake Manyara Airport (LKY), approximately 45 minutes by road. Charter flights from Arusha Airport (ARK) and Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) are available. The lodge can arrange transfers on request.
