Ashnil Samburu Camp is a comfortable mid-range tented safari camp in Buffalo Springs National Reserve, operated by Ashnil Hotels the same Kenyan group that runs Ashnil Mara and the premium Surana brand. The camp is set in a spectacular location on the south bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River, surrounded by dense doum palms and looking across the water toward the dramatic backdrop of the Ol Olokwe mountain. Just 4 kilometres from Samburu Airstrip, it is one of the most conveniently accessible camps in the region for fly-in travellers.
Thirty exclusive luxury tents are spread along the shady riverbank, each on a wooden terrace with river views. Tents feature large beds under mosquito netting, en-suite bathrooms with showers, fans, seating areas, and terraces for wildlife viewing. The restaurant serves a variety of menus including international, oriental, and traditional African cuisine; the bar has river-facing views. A swimming pool surrounded by doum palms is ideal for the midday heat. Activities include twice-daily game drives in both Buffalo Springs and the adjacent Samburu National Reserve, guided nature walks, Samburu cultural village visits, and bush picnic meals.
Samburu is served by scheduled daily charter flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL), approximately 60–90 minutes. Air Kenya, SafariLink, and FlyALS operate routes to Kalama, Samburu, and Buffalo Springs airstrips. The camp arranges road transfers from the airstrip, which typically include a game drive en route. By road from Nairobi takes approximately 6 hours via the A2 highway north through Isiolo.
