Ashnil Mara Camp is one of the Maasai Mara’s larger and most comprehensively equipped luxury tented camps, set on the banks of the Mara River within the national reserve at a vantage point that gives guests a grandstand view of the wildebeest migration river crossings from July to October. The camp overlooks the confluence of the Mara and Olkeju Rivers, a position that generates extraordinary year-round wildlife activity: hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds are permanent residents, while big cats, elephant, buffalo, and giraffe move through the surrounding riverine forest daily.
Fifty luxury tents, each on a raised wooden deck with individual Mara River views, are fitted with large beds draped in mosquito nets, air conditioning, fans, a private en-suite shower bathroom with free toiletries, seating area, safety deposit box, and charging facilities. The camp’s central areas have a contemporary resort-like quality with a vast main dining hall, a two-pool complex (including a spa pool), an open-air bar, spa tent, gym, and a fire-pit lounge. The kitchen delivers interactive buffet-style dining covering international, oriental, and African cuisines at a standard consistently praised as among the best in the Mara. Three daily game drives are included; bush dinners, picnic lunches, hot-air balloon safaris, and cultural activities are available at additional cost.
The Maasai Mara is reached by a 45-minute scheduled charter flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL). Multiple daily flights are available on shared charters, operated by several Kenyan carriers. International travellers arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) can transfer to Wilson Airport or arrange a private charter flight directly to the camp’s nearest airstrip. Road access from Nairobi takes approximately 5–6 hours and is not recommended except for the most budget-conscious travellers.
