&Beyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp is one of Kenya’s largest and most established luxury safari camps, set on a private concession along the Saparingo River at the foot of the Oloololo Escarpment on the Mara’s western border. The camp’s name means ‘Elephant Head’ in Swahili a fitting title for a property that sits in direct path of the Great Migration route, with elephants, lions, leopards, cheetah, and the wildebeest and zebra river crossings all observable from camp or on daily drives. Forty tents in three categories provide the most varied accommodation of any top-tier Mara camp: 12 Classic Tents (shaded by riverine forest, ideal for birding), 20 Superior Tents (Maasai-inspired interiors with Mara or forest views), and 8 Superior View Tents (recently rebuilt, with uninterrupted panoramic Mara plains views). All feature private verandas with day beds, polished cypress furniture, oversized beds, and en-suite bathrooms. Three Family Tents (pairs of interconnected Superior Tents) accommodate up to two adults and two children. The Maasai Mara is reached by a 45-minute scheduled charter flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL). Multiple daily flights are available on shared charters, operated by several Kenyan carriers. International travellers arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) can transfer to Wilson Airport or arrange a private charter flight directly to the camp’s nearest airstrip. Road access from Nairobi takes approximately 5–6 hours and is not recommended except for the most budget-conscious travellers.
