Standard
WCAG 2.1 (target)
RYDER Signature believes that accessible safari experiences in Tanzania and Kenya should be available to every traveler, regardless of physical ability. This statement explains our work toward an inclusive website and our approach to planning physical travel that accommodates diverse needs. We treat accessibility as a commitment, not a checkbox — one that requires ongoing effort, honest communication, and creative problem-solving.
Section 01
Our Digital Accessibility Goals
We work toward making rydersignature.com accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. Our target is to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We treat digital accessibility as an ongoing commitment requiring continuous improvement and regular review — not a standard we declare and forget.
WCAG Conformance Status
We have not yet completed a formal independent WCAG 2.1 AA audit. We work toward these standards and actively remediate issues as they are identified. If you encounter an accessibility barrier on our site, please tell us — we take all reports seriously and investigate promptly.

For the best experience, we recommend using current versions of major browsers: Chrome with ChromeVox, Firefox with screen reader support, Safari with VoiceOver, or Microsoft Edge with Narrator. The website is fully responsive across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Section 03
Known Limitations
We are transparent about current accessibility gaps. The following limitations exist and are being actively worked on:
-
Legacy PDF Documents Some older documents may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We are working through existing files and ensuring all new documents meet accessibility standards from the point of creation.
-
Third-Party Embedded Content Content embedded from external services — booking widgets, maps, social media feeds — may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We cannot control the accessibility of external code but select partners who demonstrate a commitment to inclusive design.
-
Interactive Maps Certain map features present challenges for screen reader users. We provide text-based alternatives for all essential location information to ensure no content is map-only.
-
Live Chat Real-time chat functionality may present accessibility challenges. Email and telephone are always available as full alternatives.
If you encounter an accessibility barrier not listed above, please contact us at africa@rydersignature.com. We investigate all reported issues and respond within three (3) business days.
Section 04
Our Approach to Accessible Safari Travel
Creating accessible safari experiences in Tanzania and Kenya requires thoughtful planning, appropriate equipment, honest communication, and guides who understand how to serve travelers with diverse needs. We approach accessibility with creativity rather than limitation — our starting position is to find a way, not to default to no.
Every traveler's accessibility needs are different. We customise itineraries based on detailed conversations about mobility, stamina, sensory considerations, and personal preferences. We maintain direct relationships with accessible accommodations and specialist providers across our operating regions and can give honest assessments of what is and is not currently feasible for specific destinations.
Section 05
Accessibility by Need Type
Mobility
Mobility and Physical Accessibility
We maintain modified safari vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts and secure tie-down systems. These vehicles enable game drives in major national parks and reserves. Not all destinations can accommodate all mobility devices due to terrain constraints — some remote areas have limited access options — but we provide honest, upfront guidance on feasibility for every specific itinerary.
Sensory
Visual and Hearing Impairments
Our guides receive training in descriptive narration, painting detailed verbal pictures of wildlife and landscapes for visually impaired travelers. For hearing impairments, we provide written materials, visual signals for schedule changes, and can arrange positioning for lip-reading. Sign language interpreters can be arranged with sufficient advance notice, though availability varies.
Cognitive
Cognitive and Developmental Differences
We welcome travelers with cognitive and developmental differences and design comfortable, predictable experiences where possible. We can provide detailed written itineraries with visual schedules, consistent routines, quiet decompression spaces, flexible activity scheduling, and clear advance communication about any changes. Family members or caregivers should share specific needs during initial planning.
Medical
Medical and Health Considerations
Travelers with chronic conditions — diabetes, cardiac conditions, respiratory issues — can often enjoy safari experiences with appropriate preparation. We need to understand medical requirements in advance to ensure access to supplies, appropriate proximity to medical facilities, suitable activity levels, and clear emergency protocols. Travelers requiring dialysis or oxygen should contact us early to assess destination options.
Wheelchair-Accessible Accommodations
We partner with lodges and camps that offer accessible rooms and facilities. When booking a property for a traveler with mobility requirements, we request and verify the following features:
Accessible accommodation availability varies by destination and season. Advance booking is essential. We can provide detailed, verified accessibility information for specific properties on request.
Service Animals
Service animal regulations vary between Tanzania and Kenya and between individual national parks and reserves. Most East African wildlife areas do not permit dogs or other domestic animals due to wildlife interaction risks and disease transmission concerns — this is a wildlife protection regulation, not a policy choice on our part.
If you rely on a service animal, contact us during initial planning. We will research current regulations for your intended destinations, identify any available accommodations or exceptions, and work within regulatory constraints to support your needs as fully as possible.
Senior Travelers
Safari travel is well-suited to many seniors. Typical considerations include moderate pacing with appropriate rest, ground-level accommodation placement, manageable walking distances on game drives, comfortable vehicle seating for extended periods, and proximity to quality medical facilities. We plan these elements as standard when working with senior travelers.
Section 06
Medical Safety and Emergency Preparedness
For travelers with medical conditions or complex health needs, medical access and emergency response are genuine planning priorities, not afterthoughts. We address these directly during itinerary design.
AMREF Flying Doctors — Emergency Air Evacuation Partner
RYDER Signature is an official partner of AMREF Flying Doctors, providing emergency air evacuation capability across Tanzania and Kenya. For travelers with complex medical conditions, this partnership means that medical emergencies in remote safari locations — Katavi, Ruaha, the Selous — are not without a response. All RYDER Signature clients benefit from this coverage throughout their journey.
For travelers requiring supplemental oxygen: portable oxygen concentrators are permitted on most domestic flights with proper documentation, but high-altitude destinations including Kilimanjaro are not suitable for travelers requiring supplemental oxygen. We will provide specific guidance on altitude profiles for every itinerary.
Travelers requiring regular treatments such as dialysis require careful advance coordination. Remote areas may restrict destination options. Contact us early and we will research treatment availability honestly before building any itinerary.

How We Plan Your Accessible Journey
Start the Conversation Early
Successful accessible travel starts with detailed communication during the planning stage. The more we understand before we build your itinerary, the better the result. We encourage sharing the following during your initial inquiry:
All health and accessibility information is treated with complete confidentiality in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Itinerary Design
We consider accessibility from the ground up rather than retrofitting a standard itinerary. Destination selection balances wildlife objectives with realistic access. Activity modifications ensure travelers participate as fully as possible within their physical parameters. Creative alternatives often produce unexpected highlights. Pacing is built in throughout — not as an afterthought when the schedule is already full.
Where additional support would enhance the journey, we can arrange personal assistants or caregivers, medical professionals for complex health needs, additional equipment porters, and dedicated vehicles providing maximum flexibility.
Documentation to Prepare
- Medical clearance letters for activities with fitness or health requirements
- Prescriptions for all medications being carried in quantity
- Equipment specifications for specialist mobility devices (for airline clearance)
- Insurance documentation confirming coverage for pre-existing conditions
- Emergency contact details and relevant medical history summary
Section 08
Feedback and Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a fixed destination. Your experiences and feedback — positive and critical — directly shape how we improve. We actively seek input from travelers with accessibility needs because lived experience surfaces issues that internal review misses.
- 1Regular website accessibility audits and active remediation of identified issues
- 2Staff training on accessibility awareness and respectful, practical service
- 3Expanding partnerships with accessible accommodation providers
- 4Investment in accessible vehicle capabilities as the fleet develops
- 5Incorporating traveler feedback into real service improvements
- 6Staying current with accessibility regulations across all operating regions
