4-Day Serengeti Grand Circuit:
Fly Into the North. Arc the Entire Serengeti. Fly Out from the Centre.
The most comprehensive single Serengeti program available from Zanzibar — flying into Kogatende in the North Serengeti, spending three nights arcing south through the ecosystem's full length, and flying out from Seronera's Central Plains. Every zone of the Serengeti covered in a single circuit.
Overview
The Full Serengeti. North to South — Every Zone, One Circuit.
ZFI-C8 is the Serengeti specialist program — designed for guests who have visited the Central Serengeti before, or who want to understand the full geographic scope of Africa's greatest wildlife ecosystem.
Flying into Kogatende and driving south to Seronera over three days covers every major zone of the Serengeti ecosystem: the Mara River woodlands and kopje country of the north, the Lobo Hills transition zone, and the famous open plains of the Seronera Valley. The Day 3 arc drive — a 4-5 hour road transfer with game stops through the full length of the ecosystem — is one of the most rewarding game-drive experiences in Tanzania.
The program is best in July–October when the migration herds are concentrated in the north and the Mara River crossing zone is accessible. Year-round, the Central Serengeti’s resident population provides consistent wildlife in the Seronera zone.
Flying into the North and out of the Centre covers the two most distinct Serengeti zones — the kopje and woodland north and the open grassland centre — in a single 4-day program.
The 4-5 hour ecosystem arc drive from Kogatende to Seronera covers the full geographic scope of Africa's greatest wildlife area — unavailable on any single-zone program.
July–October: the herds at their densest in the Kogatende zone, with Mara River crossings accessible and the full migration drama available across two full days.
Kogatende's migration-following lion prides and Seronera's resident predator population represent two entirely different predator ecologies — both encountered in a single circuit.
The only Zanzibar program that arrives and departs from different Serengeti airstrips — covering the ecosystem's full length from departure to return.
Peak season aligns with the migration presence in the north. Year-round, the Central Serengeti's resident population ensures consistent wildlife.

Your Journey, Day by Day
Day 1 — Kogatende Arrival
Zanzibar → North Serengeti
An early Zanzibar departure connects to Kilimanjaro International Airport and onward to the Kogatende airstrip in the North Serengeti — the furthest north and most ecologically distinct of the Serengeti’s three principal airstrip zones. The approach to Kogatende reveals the North Serengeti’s character: kopje-studded hills, the dark line of the Mara River’s woodland corridor visible across the plain, and in season the wildebeest herds as dense black patterns extending to the horizon. Your guide is at the airstrip with the morning’s field intelligence — the current Mara River crossing probability, the resident lion pride positions, and the specific terrain circuit planned for the afternoon.
The afternoon game drive in the Kogatende zone introduces the program’s starting point — the North Serengeti’s specific ecology. Unlike the Central Serengeti’s infinite flat plain, the north is more varied: kopje granite outcrops rising from the grassland, riverine woodland along the Mara’s edge, and the Kogatende escarpment providing elevated views across the crossing zone terrain. Lion prides that follow the migration north in July–October are positioned at the woodland edges; elephants occupy the northern acacia belt; leopard are resident in the Mara’s riverine trees. The first afternoon establishes the wildlife baseline and the landscape orientation for the two full north Serengeti days that follow.
Day 2 — Full North Serengeti
Mara Zone and Kopje Country
A complete day in the North Serengeti’s most varied terrain — the Mara River crossing zone in the morning, the Kogatende kopjes through midday, and the Lobo Hills area in the afternoon. If the migration is present (July–October), the morning offers crossing zone positioning with your guide’s real-time field intelligence. Lion prides that follow the migration into the north are active throughout the day. Leopard along the Mara woodland, elephant in the northern acacia belt, and cheetah on the open ground complement the migration.
A bush lunch is taken at a riverside kopje viewpoint — the Mara River visible below, the Serengeti’s western corridor visible to the south.
Day 3 — Grand Arc South
Full Serengeti Ecosystem Arc Drive
Day 3 is the Grand Circuit’s signature element — a 4-5 hour road transfer from Kogatende south to Seronera with game stops throughout the ecosystem’s transition zones. The North Serengeti’s kopje country gives way to the Lobo Hills area, then to the vast open plains of the central zone. The wildlife changes completely: the migration’s seasonal density replaced by the resident population’s permanent range. Giraffe appear in numbers. Cheetah are encountered on the open ground. The Seronera Valley’s fig trees signal the arrival at the Central Serengeti.
This drive — covering the full length of the Serengeti ecosystem — is one of the most rewarding game drive experiences in Tanzania for guests who have visited the central plains before and want to understand the full geographic scope of Africa’s greatest wildlife area.
Day 4 — Seronera Predator Day + Fly-Out
Full Seronera Day → Return to Zanzibar
A complete Central Serengeti day — the program’s ecological counterpoint to the North. After two nights in the North Serengeti’s crossing-zone ecology, the Seronera zone’s resident predator population and the open plain’s infinite horizon provide a deliberately different wildlife register. The dawn drive begins at 06:00 with the guide’s overnight intelligence from Day 3’s arrival: the specific Seronera lion pride territories, the fig trees to check for leopard in the morning light, and the open plain where cheetah were active at dusk. In the early light the Seronera Valley has a quality that no description quite captures — the horizontal golden light across the grassland, the predators at their overnight positions, and the absence of other vehicles in the pre-08:00 window.
The mid-morning bush breakfast on the open Central Serengeti plain — table, chairs, hot food, the Serengeti as the dining room — precedes the afternoon drive and the Seronera airstrip fly-out to Zanzibar. The Seronera departure completes the Grand Circuit’s geographic logic: in at Kogatende in the far north, out at Seronera in the centre, the full ecosystem arc covered in four days without backtracking. The direct Seronera-to-Zanzibar flight lands at the beach resort in time for a late afternoon by the pool — the contrast between the Serengeti’s ecological intensity across four days and the Indian Ocean’s calm horizontality providing one of East Africa travel’s most satisfying transitions.
