Vuma Hills Tented Camp is perched in the forested Vuma Mountains on the south-western fringe of Mikumi National Park, overlooking the vast Mkata Plains below from an elevated forest setting that provides cool temperatures, spectacular views, and an intimate bush atmosphere. A Foxes Safari Camps property the same family operation behind Ruaha River Lodge, Stanley’s Kopje, and others in Tanzania’s southern circuit Vuma Hills takes a forest-immersion approach distinct from the open-plains exposure of Mikumi’s other camps. The 16 tented rooms are raised on wooden stilts under thatched roofs in dense bush, each with a private shaded veranda from which guests can observe the plains below and the nocturnal wildlife that visits the camp after dark. Bush babies, honey badgers, porcupines, civets, and genets are all regular nocturnal visitors, making Vuma a genuine highlight for night wildlife enthusiasts.
Game drives cover Mikumi National Park from the gate approximately 6km away, through golden grasslands that support lion, leopard, giraffe, elephant, buffalo, zebra, wild dog, and over 400 bird species. Day excursions to Udzungwa Mountains National Park (approximately 37km) offer rainforest hikes to the Sanje waterfalls and encounters with endemic primates including the Sanje crested mangabey and red colobus. Full-board rates include all meals; drinks are charged separately.
Sixteen forest tented rooms raised on stilts under thatched roofs, each with a private shaded veranda, two single beds or a double, en-suite bathroom with shower, and solar-heated hot water.
