Mkomazi Wilderness Retreat is an intimate, owner-run tented camp perched on Dindira Hill in the heart of Mkomazi National Park one of Tanzania’s least visited but most rewarding wildlife destinations. The park is often called Tanzania’s “Home of the Black Rhino”, and the retreat gives guests access to both the Kisima and Mbula black rhino sanctuaries, where the endangered animals can be seen at close range. Below the camp, Mkomazi’s main watering hole draws large herds throughout the day and into the night, allowing genuine bush immersion from the tents themselves.
Seven luxury tents are positioned on the Dindira plains with private bathrooms, rain showers, and verandas facing the watering hole. All materials are locally sourced and the camp runs entirely on solar power. The intimate scale, outstanding guides, and extraordinarily personal service have earned the retreat exceptional reviews. The open restaurant and bar overlook the Pare Mountains and Kilimanjaro, and the organic menu is sourced partly from the camp’s own nearby Kimango Farm.
Seven luxury tents divide into Panoramic tents (sliding glass doors) and Safari Classic tents (traditional opening), each with private veranda, en-suite rain shower bathroom, and watering-hole views.
Charter flights from Arusha or Kilimanjaro to a private airstrip near the camp take approximately 45–60 minutes. Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) is approximately 3 hours by road. The camp is located between Arusha and the Kenyan border.
