Mizingani Sea Front Hotel occupies one of Stone Town’s most storied buildings: a former royal residence constructed in 1865 for the honeymoon of Sultan Barghash’s household, which later served as a custom house before falling into disrepair and being beautifully restored as a boutique hotel. The building sits directly on the Forodhani waterfront, just two minutes’ walk from the Stone Town ferry terminal and steps from the night market at Forodhani Gardens, the Sultan’s Palace Museum, the House of Wonders, and the Old Fort. Its historic Moroccan-inspired interior arched corridors, antique furniture, four-poster beds, mosaic-tiled hamam bathrooms gives the hotel a romantic character that no purpose-built property can replicate.
Thirty-one individually styled air-conditioned rooms are arranged around the building’s historic corridors, each with ocean-front or pool-view balconies and modern facilities including flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and solar-heated hot water. The Ocean Front Restaurant on the seafront terrace serves Indian, African, and halal cuisine. A swimming pool with 360-degree panoramic views of the hotel occupies the upper floor. The hotel is notable as the only property in Stone Town using solar panels for hot water across all guest rooms.
Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) is approximately 6–8km from Stone Town, a 15–20-minute drive. Daily flights connect Zanzibar with Dar es Salaam (approx. 20 min), Nairobi, Kilimanjaro, and Mombasa. The hotel arranges airport transfers.
Fast ferries from Dar es Salaam arrive at Stone Town ferry terminal in approximately 2–2.5 hours. The hotel is within walking distance or a short taxi ride from the terminal.
