Kitela Lodge is a small, exclusive property operated by Tanganyika Wilderness Camps (TWC), set on a hillside in the Ngorongoro Highlands with views over a working coffee plantation, a spectacular waterfall, and the eastern face of the Ngorongoro Crater. Twenty colonial-style cottages are nestled among beautiful gardens and surrounded by a lush working farm, creating an atmosphere of tranquillity that is rare at this level of quality in the region. The lodge’s proximity to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area gate makes early morning Crater descents straightforward, while the gardens and farm provide their own slower-paced pleasures closer to home.
The main building is a two-storey farmhouse with a terrace overlooking the crater wall, and the grounds include a heated swimming pool, spa, and coffee plantation for guided afternoon walks. TWC’s characteristic attention to food quality and service is evident throughout, with meals often served buffet-style around the pool.
Twenty colonial-style cottages each have en-suite bathrooms with shower and bath, private terraces or balconies overlooking the coffee plantation and highland scenery, king or twin bed configurations, fireplaces, and air conditioning. Two interconnecting family units are available.
Lake Manyara Airport (LKY) is approximately 25 minutes by road. Charter flights from Arusha Airport (ARK) and Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) operate to this airstrip. The lodge is 8km from Karatu town and 151km from Arusha.
