Kirawira Serena Camp is perched on a high hilltop in the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, offering sweeping views across the plains below and positioning guests directly in the path of the Great Migration as it moves northward through the corridor each year between May and July. It is the most exclusive and smallest property in the Serena Hotels’ Tanzania portfolio — a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World — and is styled in deliberate tribute to the Edwardian and Victorian safari camps of the early 20th century.
The colonial aesthetic runs through every detail: dining staff dressed in white Swahili robes and turbans serving from elegant twin dining tents furnished with sprung floors, starched napery, and blue-and-white china; a lounge furnished with Persian rugs, leather smoking chairs, and chaise longues; and a wind-up phonograph completing the time-travel effect. A Swarovski spotting scope in the lounge allows game watching without leaving camp. The rock-enclosed swimming pool faces west, making sunset views from the water one of the camp’s signature experiences. The Maisha Spa offers a range of treatments.
Twenty-five luxury tents raised on timber platforms, each with a king, double, or twin bed, en-suite bathroom, and furnished private veranda. The tents are widely spaced for privacy, each facing outward to capture the Serengeti view. Solar thermal heating systems supply hot water throughout.
The camp is approximately 13km from Grumeti airstrip (Kirawira B Aerodrome). Charter and scheduled flights connect from Arusha (approximately 1 hour) and Kilimanjaro. The Serena team arranges airstrip transfers. The camp is also accessible from Mwanza by road in approximately 3 hours.
