KIA Lodge by Moivaro is the closest accommodation to Kilimanjaro International Airport, positioned on a savannah hillside under 5 minutes from the terminal. Operated by the Moivaro group, it has functioned as the airport’s natural transit lodge since its establishment, offering 40 thatched brick cottages in traditional African style spread across grounds that attract over 100 bird species. The hilltop swimming pool provides panoramic views of Kilimanjaro, Meru, and the surrounding Maasai plains on clear days — making it one of the most atmospheric airport-adjacent properties in East Africa.
The lodge is well-suited to both transit travellers requiring a smooth arrival or departure experience and those starting or finishing Kilimanjaro climbs or northern circuit safaris. Day rooms are also available for guests with extended layovers. The restaurant serves a daily changing four-course dinner menu alongside a la carte lunch options, and the open bar and terrace area provide an authentic welcome into Tanzanian culture.
Forty spacious African-style thatched brick cottages each have twin or double bed configurations with en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans, air conditioning, personal safe, and mosquito netting.
KIA Lodge is under 5 minutes by road from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). A complimentary airport transfer is available for guests staying at the lodge. For day room guests, a small transfer fee applies.
