&Beyond Grumeti River Lodge is positioned on the banks of a tributary of the Grumeti River in the remote western reaches of the Serengeti National Park one of the most secluded luxury addresses in Tanzania. The lodge’s design pays homage to the circular forms of a traditional Maasai manyatta, curving with the natural bow of the river, with spacious thatched structures and broad sun decks overlooking the water. Due to its remoteness, very few vehicles are ever encountered in this part of the Serengeti, creating an intimate and exclusive safari experience even in peak season.
The river’s permanent water draws resident hippos, enormous Nile crocodiles, and the black-and-white colobus monkey a species found nowhere else in the Serengeti. In June and July, the Great Migration passes directly through this area, with wildebeest crossings audible and visible from the lodge. The rim-flow swimming pool overlooks the seasonal hippo pools below, and the interactive kitchen allows guests to participate in the day’s menu preparation. Fully all-inclusive rates encompass all meals, house wines and spirits, game drives, laundry, and the WILDchild programme for younger guests.
Ten river-facing suites, including one family suite, are spaciously furnished in natural textures and a palette inspired by the hippos and fishing communities of Lake Victoria. Each suite has a king-size bed, en-suite bath and indoor/outdoor showers, and a private plunge pool on the deck. Overhead fans and air conditioning provide year-round comfort.
Scheduled and charter flights from Arusha and Kilimanjaro connect to Grumeti airstrip, which is a 5–10 minute drive from the lodge. Several airlines offer daily service; the camp team arranges all transfers. Flying is strongly recommended given the lodge’s remote location in the far western Serengeti.
